How to create Jira tickets from meetings automatically

Every meeting ends with commitments: "I'll send the keys", "can you review the PR before lunch?". Most of them never become tickets, because someone has to type them up afterwards. Here's how to get them into Jira or Linear automatically, without filling your backlog with noise.

Why meeting notes don't become tickets

  • Notes are written for reading, not for doing. "Discussed the refund flow" isn't a task.
  • Nobody owns turning them into tickets, so it happens on Friday, or never.
  • AI notetakers produce long summaries and a flat list of "action items" with no owner, no due date and no definition of done.
  • Tools that do create tickets often create too many: every idea and side comment becomes a ticket, so people stop trusting them.

What a good meeting-to-ticket flow does

  1. Only real commitments become tickets: someone said "I'll…" or was clearly asked. Ideas, risks and status updates don't.
  2. Each ticket has an owner from the people in the call, and a due date when one was said.
  3. Each ticket says what done means, built from what was actually said ("through 1Password, not Slack").
  4. It quotes the line it came from, so anyone can check it.
  5. It checks your open tickets first, so "picking up rate limiting today" moves the existing ticket instead of creating a duplicate.
  6. A person approves before anything is created. One click, not a form.

Make standups the first meeting you automate

Standups are where most small commitments happen and where the board drifts from reality fastest. Automate those first: every "I'll do X today" becomes a ticket or moves one, and the blockers become visible on the board instead of in someone's memory.

How Align does this for you

Align listens to your Google Meet, Teams or Zoom call through a browser extension (no bot joins), or runs the meeting in an Align Room. When it ends, each person gets their tickets in their Plans Inbox: an owner, a due date, the context, "done when" checks and the quote it came from. Approve and the ticket is created in Jira or Linear, synced both ways. Tickets you already track move instead of being duplicated.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work with Jira Cloud and Linear?

Yes. Align connects to Jira Cloud and Linear with your own account and keeps tickets in two-way sync: change it in either place and the other follows.

Will it flood my backlog?

No. Only commitments and explicit asks become suggestions, each one quotes the words it came from, and nothing is created until someone approves it.

Does a bot have to join the call?

No. The Align browser extension reads the call's captions on Google Meet, Teams and Zoom in the browser. Everyone in the call is told Align is taking notes.

Let tomorrow’s standup write itself

Sign up, connect Jira or Linear (or just use Plans), and hold your standup as usual. The tickets are drafted by the time you hang up, and the next update is ready before anyone asks.
